When a tin mine in Wales had the need to Wi-Fi enable several hundred metres of underground mines to connect with Health and Safety devices and sensors, they faced many issues around placing IT in a hostile environment with no IT expert onsite.
Exploration of One Vendor / One Solution
Starting at the enclosure, Vertiv proposed a durable IP54 rated rack to keep out any dust or moisture, with built-in rack cooling to keep the devices at the right temperature. Next came four hours backup runtime from Vertiv GXT4 UPS in the event of a power outage.

With no option for break in connectivity, remote serial connectivity, diagnosis and repair to any of the sensors and devices is made possible in the mine by the compact Vertiv ACS800. Top this with FREE Trellis™ Power Insight Software for connection to, and control of the UPS, and the operator had one complete solution to keep miners mining and their operator’s pockets lining.
