Emerson Network Power Expands Innovative Indirect Evaporative Freecooling Product Family Liebert® EFC

New Liebert EFC 300 provides enhanced capacity and cooling power in one single unit

SOUTHAMPTON, UK [13 April, 2015] – Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR) and a global leader in maximising availability, capacity and efficiency of critical infrastructure, has today introduced the latest iteration in its Liebert® EFC product family, the Liebert EFC 300 - further expanding the product family launched in December 2014.

The new indirect evaporative freecooling system, now available in Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA), offers improved performance as well as additional capacity and cooling power of up to 350 kW in one single unit. This increased capacity provides medium to large-sized data centres with the capability to efficiently cool the premises using a minimal number of units, resulting in further savings in operating costs, space and energy usage.

The Liebert EFC is equipped with the most advanced industry technology and uses a combination of indirect, evaporative freecooling – with an air-to-air heat exchanger. Through the water evaporation process, this technology is capable of achieving partial Power Usage Effectiveness (pPUE) levels of 1.03, which equates to an annual energy cost reduction of approximately €280,000 in comparison to a pPUE level of 1.3 for a 1 MW data centre.

This advanced system is complemented with sophisticated service capabilities, delivered through Emerson Network Power’s LIFE™ remote diagnostic and preventive monitoring service. From dedicated LIFE centres, Emerson Network Power experts analyse equipment data and trends for proactive maintenance and recommend actions to ensure the best operational performance.

Customers are able to see first-hand the performance of the unit across a wide spectrum of operating conditions in the state-of- the-art Evaporative Cooling Validation Area within the Thermal Management Customer Experience Center located in Padova, Italy. This test facility is able to simulate IT loads of up to 400 kW, with airflow parameters of up to 100,000 m3 per hour, replicating typical peak conditions across the EMEA region, and an exceptional performance measurement accuracy within a +/- 5% maximum tolerance.

“The Evaporative Cooling Validation Area offers our customers the opportunity to view demonstrations and simulations of the unit before it is purchased and installed in their facility. This not only provides full transparency around the Liebert EFC performance parameters but also gives customers access to our team of specialists,” added Roberto Felisi.

The patented control logic, uniquely available from Emerson Network Power, allows the Liebert EFC units to optimise internal air volumes and temperatures in accordance with specific server requirements, exactly matching airflow needs and ensuring that no power is wasted. Additionally, the dedicated iCOM™ Control accurately analyses the most efficient balance between water and electricity which helps to further manage costs. The Liebert EFC units are also designed to perform in a range of ambient conditions and adapt to the external environment as well as the cooling required by the data centre.
